The Doorway of Desires
Marie stood transfixed, her hand hovering inches from the shimmering doorknob. The air around her pulsed with an otherworldly energy, drawing her closer... closer... closer still to the ornate door that had mysteriously appeared in her French Quarter apartment.
As you read these words, you may find yourself sinking deeper into Marie's world. The sounds of jazz from Bourbon Street fade away, replaced by the gentle hum emanating from the door. Your eyes grow heavy, your breathing slows, and you become one with Marie's journey.
With trembling fingers, she grasped the cool metal and turned. The door swung open silently, revealing a swirling vortex of possibilities. Marie gasped, her mind reeling with the infinite choices before her. Each shimmering thread in the vortex represented a desire, a dream, a longing she'd held close to her heart.
As Marie gazed into the swirling mass, you may notice your own desires bubbling to the surface of your mind. What would you choose, if given the chance? Allow yourself to drift deeper into this feeling of possibility, of potential.
A whisper, soft as a feather, caressed Marie's ear. "Choose wisely, child. Every desire granted exacts a price."
Marie's childhood friend Jasmine materialized beside her, eyes wide with wonder. "Marie, darlin', what in the world is this?"
"I... I don't know," Marie stammered, her voice distant and dreamy. "But it's calling to me, Jazz. I can feel it in my bones."
As the two women stared into the vortex, time seemed to stretch and bend. Minutes bled into hours, hours into days. The outside world faded away, leaving only the hypnotic pull of the door and the weight of choice.
You may find your own sense of time shifting as you read, the story wrapping around you like a warm blanket. Let yourself sink deeper into this moment, this feeling of suspended reality.
Marie reached out, her fingers brushing against a glowing thread. Instantly, visions flooded her mind: her art gallery, bustling with patrons, her paintings adorning the walls of the most prestigious museums in the world. Success, recognition, validation – everything she'd ever dreamed of as an artist.
But as the vision faded, a chill ran down her spine. She saw herself, alone in a stark studio, fingers bleeding as she painted feverishly, day and night. No friends, no family, no life outside her art.
"The price of greatness," the whisper came again. "Are you willing to pay it?"
Marie jerked her hand back, heart pounding. She turned to Jasmine, seeking comfort, but her friend's eyes were glazed over, fixed on another thread in the vortex.
"Jazz?" Marie's voice quavered. "What do you see?"
Jasmine's lips curved into a dreamy smile. "Love, cher. True, deep, everlasting love. The kind that sets your soul on fire."
As Jasmine reached for the thread, Marie caught a glimpse of the cost: a gravestone, Jasmine's name etched in cold marble, the date of death mere years away. A love so consuming it would burn too bright, too fast.
"Wait!" Marie cried, grabbing Jasmine's arm. "You don't know what you're giving up!"
But Jasmine's fingers had already brushed the thread, and her eyes cleared. She blinked rapidly, looking around in confusion. "What... what just happened?"
Before Marie could answer, a new figure stepped through the doorway. Remy, Marie's ex-boyfriend, his eyes glinting with an unnatural light.
"Ladies," he drawled, his voice honey-smooth and enticing. "Why choose just one desire? Why not have it all?"
As Remy spoke, you might feel a pull towards his words, a temptation to agree. But remember, dear reader, that all choices have consequences. Marie felt herself being drawn in by Remy's charm, just as she had been years ago. But something nagged at the back of her mind, a warning she couldn't quite grasp.
"Think about it," Remy continued, his voice weaving a hypnotic spell. "All your dreams at your fingertips. Fame, fortune, love – why settle for less?"
As he spoke, the vortex pulsed and swirled, threads of desire intertwining and multiplying. Marie's head spun, overwhelmed by the possibilities. You may feel your own desires rising to the surface, tantalizing and tempting. Allow yourself to explore these feelings, knowing you are safe and in control.
Jasmine stepped forward, her eyes blazing. "No, Remy. We can't just take without giving. That's not how the world works."
But Remy only laughed, the sound echoing unnaturally in the small apartment. "The world has taken enough from us, don't you think? It's time we took something back."
As Marie watched, paralyzed by indecision, Remy reached into the vortex with both hands, grasping fistfuls of shimmering threads. The air crackled with energy, and for a moment, Marie saw flashes of a life beyond her wildest dreams – wealth, power, adoration. But in Remy's eyes, she saw something else: a hollowness, a hunger that could never be satisfied. And in that moment, Marie understood the true cost of unchecked desire.
With a strength she didn't know she possessed, Marie lunged forward, pushing Remy away from the vortex. As he stumbled backward, the threads slipped from his grasp, dissolving into mist.
"No!" Remy howled, his face contorting with rage. "You don't understand what you've done!"
But Marie stood her ground, feeling a calm certainty wash over her. "I understand perfectly, Remy. Some prices are too high to pay."
As she spoke these words, you might feel a sense of resolution settling over you, a clarity of purpose and understanding.
Marie turned to Jasmine, whose eyes were clearing of their dreamlike state. "We have to close the door, Jazz. It's too dangerous to leave open."
Jasmine nodded, a wistful smile playing on her lips. "You're right, cher. Some things aren't meant for us to have."
Together, the two women grasped the doorknob, fighting against the pull of the vortex. As they struggled to close it, Remy made one last desperate lunge.
"You're making a mistake!" he cried. "You'll regret this for the rest of your lives!"
But Marie and Jasmine held firm, and with a final push, the door slammed shut. The air shimmered for a moment, and then the ornate door vanished as if it had never been. In the sudden silence, Marie and Jasmine looked at each other, then burst into laughter – relieved, exhausted, and strangely exhilarated.
As their laughter faded, Marie felt a sense of peace settling over her. She realized that the true magic wasn't in having every desire granted, but in the journey of pursuing those desires – with all its joys, sorrows, and hard-won victories.
"Come on," she said to Jasmine, linking their arms. "Let's go get a beignet and coffee. I have a feeling we've got a lot to talk about."
As they stepped out into the warm New Orleans night, the strains of jazz once again floated on the air. Marie took a deep breath, feeling more alive than ever before.
And as you finish reading this tale, dear reader, you may find yourself slowly returning to your own reality. The sights and sounds of New Orleans fade away, replaced by your surroundings. But perhaps you carry with you a nugget of wisdom, a reminder that the greatest magic lies not in instant gratification, but in the choices we make and the paths we choose to walk.

Pacing and Leading
The story uses pacing and leading techniques to guide the reader's experience. This is a fundamental principle in hypnosis and hypnotic writing.
Example: "As you read these words, you may find yourself sinking deeper into Marie's world. The sounds of jazz from Bourbon Street fade away, replaced by the gentle hum emanating from the door."
This passage paces the reader's current experience (reading the words) and then leads them into a new experience (entering Marie's world). It creates a bridge between the reader's reality and the story's reality.
Writing Tip: Start with observable truths about the reader's experience, then gradually guide them into the imaginary scenario you're creating.
Sensory Rich Language
The story engages multiple senses to create a vivid, immersive experience.
Example: "The air around her pulsed with an otherworldly energy, drawing her closer... closer... closer still to the ornate door that had mysteriously appeared in her French Quarter apartment."
This description engages the reader's sense of touch (pulsing air), sight (ornate door), and spatial awareness (drawing closer).
Writing Tip: Engage as many senses as possible in your descriptions. This helps the reader feel present in the scene.
Time Distortion
Hypnotic writing often plays with the reader's perception of time, mimicking the time distortion often experienced in trance states.
Example: "As the two women stared into the vortex, time seemed to stretch and bend. Minutes bled into hours, hours into days."
This passage explicitly describes time distortion, encouraging the reader to experience it themselves.
Writing Tip: Use phrases that suggest time moving differently than normal. This can help induce a trance-like state in the reader.
Direct Reader Address
The story occasionally breaks the fourth wall to directly address the reader, deepening their involvement in the narrative.
Example: "You may feel your own desires rising to the surface, tantalizing and tempting. Allow yourself to explore these feelings, knowing you are safe and in control."
This direct address invites the reader to personally engage with the story's themes and emotions.
Writing Tip: Use "you" statements to directly involve the reader in the story. This can make the experience more personal and immersive.
Embedded Commands
The story includes subtle suggestions or commands embedded within the narrative.
Example: "Let yourself sink deeper into this moment, this feeling of suspended reality."
This sentence is both a description of what's happening in the story and a subtle command to the reader.
Writing Tip: Embed gentle commands or suggestions within your descriptive text. These can influence the reader's experience without being overtly directive.
Metaphors and Symbolism
The story uses rich metaphors and symbols that can work on the reader's subconscious mind.
Example: "Each shimmering thread in the vortex represented a desire, a dream, a longing she'd held close to her heart."
The vortex of threads becomes a powerful metaphor for life choices and desires.
Writing Tip: Use metaphors that resonate with universal human experiences. These can bypass critical thinking and speak directly to the subconscious.
Open Loops and Unresolved Tension
The story creates and maintains tension by opening loops of curiosity that aren't immediately resolved.
Example: The mysterious appearance of the door, the unknown costs of each desire, and Remy's sudden appearance all create open loops that keep the reader engaged.
Writing Tip: Introduce elements of mystery or unanswered questions early in your story. Resolve them gradually to maintain tension and interest.
Fractionation
The story alternates between deep immersion in the fantastical elements and brief returns to reality, a technique known as fractionation in hypnosis.
Example: The story moves between the magical vortex and reminders of the real New Orleans setting.
Writing Tip: Alternate between your main narrative and brief "reality checks" or shifts in perspective. This can actually deepen the reader's immersion when they return to the main story.
Future Pacing
The story ends with a suggestion that the reader might carry something from the story into their real life.
Example: "But perhaps you carry with you a nugget of wisdom, a reminder that the greatest magic lies not in instant gratification, but in the choices we make and the paths we choose to walk."
This technique, known as future pacing, helps bridge the story experience with the reader's ongoing life.
Writing Tip: End your story with a suggestion of how the reader might apply or remember the story's lessons in their real life.
By employing these techniques, writers can create deeply engaging, hypnotic narratives that resonate with readers on both conscious and subconscious levels. The key is to practice these methods and find ways to integrate them into your unique writing style seamlessly.
